    What is Software?

    Software is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions telling a computer what to do and how to do it. In other words, software refers to one or more programs and data stored in the computer to fulfill specific purpose . Software is treated as an intangible component that can not be touched and we can actually classify it into three different categories :-

    System Software:- A software that provides a platform on which application software can actually execute. The example of system software are device, drivers, operating systems and servers.

    Programming Software:- A software offering programming and application tools that a developer can use to debug and maintain applications. The examples of programming software are compilers, debuggers and interpreters.

    Application Software:- A group of programs that provide the computer a capability to execute data processing tasks for a specific user. The examples of application software are Internet browsers and mobile gaming software.

    Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks. Opposite of hardware, which describes the physical aspects of a computer, software is a generic term used to refer to applications, scripts and programs that run on a device. Software can be thought of as the variable part of a computer and hardware the invariable part.
