Debugging

The process of identifying and fixing the bugs or defects in software or hardware is known as debugging. Once the defect is identified it is necessary to find and locate the statements in the program which are responsible for the errors and then fix them.

Testing is not debugging not vice versa. The process of program debugging can be identified after the execution of successful test case, the test cases which finds a bug or a defect are known as successful test cases.

The process of debugging is divided into two parts, it starts with an alert for the existence of defect in the software or hardware and it is the process of finding the exact nature and location of the particular error within the software and repairing it.

Debugging and Testing are two different processes, the process of testing is to identify errors or bugs whereas the process of debugging starts after the bug or error is identified in the software.

Following are the stages involved in debugging process:

(i) Identify the problem in the software.
(ii) Create a defect or bug report.
(iii) Assign the bug or defect to the devloper to make sure that the bug is geniune.
(iv) Make the required changes to the software and resolve the bug.
(v) Validate the final corrected software.
