    Types of Servers

    Device Servers

A device server is a dedicated and specialized network-based device mainly hardware type  that will perform a specialized set of functions.

It requires minimal operating kind of architecture and requires no license type, and is independent of any operating system or protocol.

The device server is like a closed box that is easy to install and need very minimal maintenance, and easily managed by a client using a web browser only.

    Print Servers

Print servers will allow the the printer that are on the network to be shared.

Supporting either done from the parallel or the serial interface , the print server print the thing from any user on  the network who is following the required protocol.

    Network Time Servers

A network time server is a kind of server that is mainly used to handle the timing or clock information from the sources such as satellites and is used to provide the timing data to the network it is attached from.

The special kind of protocols such as UDP will allow the time server to communicate to the other nodes to provide the necessary coordination and the synchronization in a proper manner.

Print servers generally do not contain a large amount of memory; printers simply store information in a queue. When the desired printer becomes available, they allow the host to transmit the data to the appropriate printer port on the server.

The print server is less in memory size, it stores all the information in the form of the queue. When the required printer becomes available , the port is used to display data form the server using the transmission mechanism by the user .

    Multiport Device Servers

Those devices which are attached to the network by a multiport device can be shared using the terminals at the local as well as through the network.

A single terminal in the network can be connected to the several hosts at the same time and can be used to switch between them, the  multiport devices are the way to access the network devices that have only serial outputs.

A connection between serial ports on different servers is opened, allowing data to move between the two devices.
