    Network LAN Technologies

     

    Ethernet

     

    Ethernet is based on the shared media of information for communication. It is based on the Carrier Sense Multi Access/Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) to detect collisions.

     

    Fast-Ethernet

    Due to the need of latest and day by day upcoming faster software and hardware technologies, Ethernet extends itself as Fast-Ethernet. It can run on UTP, Optical Fiber, and wirelessly too. It can provide speed up to 100 MBPS.

     

     

    Giga-Ethernet

    It is introduced in 1995 and after that Fast-Ethernet was able to enjoy its high speed status only for 3 years as till Giga-Ethernet is not introduced. Giga-Ethernet provides speed up to 1000 mbits/seconds.

     

     

    Virtual LAN

    LAN uses Ethernet which and it in-turn works on shared media. Shared media creates one single Broadcast domain and one single Collision domain.
