How to start the day? What will be my agenda for the day? What is important to be finished today? Well, this is very common concern we all have. It is very important for us to know how to start and proceed for the day. Let me bring your attention to a very simple and easy way to mange work. We all generally avoid this thinking it is a waste of time. But actually, it is not. It is investment on time.
Let me translate a small story here, many of us must have read this earlier as well:
Once at a competition for cutting a tree, both the contenders were given a time limit of 2 hours. Contender 1, started cutting the tree at the start of the Go. Whereas, the 2nd contender started sharpening his axe. He spent around 1 hour sharpening his axe. The first one at continuous laughter seeing this, thinking how he was wasting his time. 2 hours passed by and guess who the winner was? Yes, it was the 2nd contender. Although, he started late, but still. Just because, he had all his things prepared. He had spent time on preparing himself before proceeding.
This is the main agenda of this write up. To tell you the importance of morning meetings and discussion. At the meetings, department members share information. They review the current status of the department and the concrete plans for the day. Everyone leaves knowing exactly what he or she is expected to carry out over the next eight hours.
Making sure to have a meeting every morning creates an opportunity to introduce concreteness into every single day. Given the opportunity, we all tend to goof off. This is just as true for me as it is for anyone. In order to keep focused on your job, you must instill in yourself at the beginning of each day a firm want to complete the days work. Once clear goals and actions have been established, do not just let yourself be inspired, dedicate yourself to the goals in front of you without straying the path. If you can focus solely on your job, you will find that you are able to accomplish a lot more than you initially thought possible. And furthermore, you will have more fun doing it.
On the other hand, if you know what you must do, you can attack it with energy and focus.
Why? More often than not, failures at work occur when employees have little specific idea of what they should do. What should I do today and what should I do tomorrow? This can lead to vague work. If the work you are doing is vague, that time loses its value and will pass by in an instant. Continue to carry out vague work every day and you may go one or two years without accomplishing anything.
Suppose you are not in a position to call a morning meeting? You can still make use of this tip. Decide what you will do each day on your own. At the start of the day, organize your goals and actions, and make sure that as the day progresses you take steps to achieve your goals.
It might seem troublesome at first to establish concrete goals at the start of each day, but if you continue to do so over a long span of time I think you will begin to feel how significant this is. And you will find that it is an excellent way to find meaning in your work...
