The article describes almost all the problems that are characteristic of our agriculture and small business as a whole. The key success factor is the reduction of the intermediary chain from the manufacturer to the consumer.
The ex-programmist built a year-round underground plantation of vegetables
The former programmer, and now the farmer in four years was able to create a whole plantation of profitable vegetable greenhouses. He uses grow tent size and receives from 300 meters of land of 14 tons of cucumbers per year and selling them four times cheaper.
- I worked as a programmer for a long time. When he moved to a private house to his parents, he continued to work in his specialty, but remotely. I switched to freelance, ”said Tom. - Turning away from corporate rules and norms, in general he looked at his life, began to analyze what I want to come to in 15 years. I realized that hired work in principle does not inspire me, but what kind of own business is not a presentation. We do not have a connection everywhere here, but almost every resident, even a city dweller, knows how and loves to work on earth. I quickly got involved in rural work, as if there were not a dozen years of my life in a well -maintained apartment.
In the first year, he exceeded the plan. I spied on the Internet a technology grown according to which the crop of zucchini and cucumbers exceeded the usual for summer residents by almost a third. The next year, the crop added almost 50% of the previous one.
After that, Tom rented land near the house. The authorities promised him preferences in case of buying these lands, but the farmer is in no hurry to formalize the property: “While I am developing experience on the rented. Who knows, maybe then I will decide to move. And in principle, agricultural lands are not in demand with us, then you won’t sell it. Structures? Ah, greenhouses! So they have collapsible, you can quickly transport and assemble in another place. Yes, and the materials themselves are not so expensive, basically it is a natural resource - Earth. ”
Tom calls his miracle tums in a joke for dugouts: all the premises for the beds are dug up in the ground by a meter and a half. A plastic film or PVC panels cover them on top, on the sides - slate mixed with a film.
To provide year-round crop, Tom put in every “dugout-log” along the heater and an infrared lamp. Each “underground” greenhouse costs the Transbaikalz about 400-700 euros, of which the expenses on the material make up only half the amount. The rest is the work of diggers and collectors of greenhouses.
- At first I hired workers for a not large salary, now I began to pay more. It is very important for me at what angle and what is the footage. That diggers, that workers in caring for seedlings have to be taken from among migrants. I myself am not a big fan of hiring foreigners, yet I would like to create workplaces for local ones who complain about the deficit of vacancies on every corner. Although I myself am unhappy, but here the choice is hard: either the farm will burn out, or I give work to migrant workers. Sweepers: “windows” in the greenhouse will open in time, they will never miss the watering time, and will not forget to feed the plants. There are, of course, lazy people, but very few, one of twenty. Mostly they value work very much, ”said the interlocutor of the farm.
This year, according to the most optimistic calculations of TOM, his farm will receive more than 14 tons of cucumbers.
- But I will not actually see the money: everything will go back to the business. Part will go to build new greenhouses for the next season. And the lion's share will go to a new direction - the dumping of vegetables to the retail outlets of trade, ”he explains.
Initially, Tom hired private truckers, but now he earns on the transportation of goods: “It was important for me at the first stage to not let others monopolize logistics, therefore he hired individual drivers, without addressing large carriers. Now I already have one truck in the ownership, I took three more leasing. Now I not only drive my goods, but also earn: from private farms we take, for example, milk or meat. Own retail network? Yes, it would be cool, but so far unbearable. It is necessary to dig in order to enter the market immediately with your store or kiosks. Renting is now unprofitable for trading. My dream is to become an enterprise of the full cycle, like, only in vegetables. And it is beneficial to the buyer - products will appear cheaper in retail - and to me, because all of their own will not need to share with anyone. Well, except for the state, of course.
Now Tom is able to keep prices at the level even in the “hottest” season - before the New Year. If we increase the volumes of three times and build his retail network, the entrepreneur is sure that he could sell fresh cucumbers even in winter at an affordable price.
