The old saying, 'You can lead the horse to water however you can't make it drink,' has appropriate significance to the life of the teacher–and the vast majority of us have "educating" parts. We ask people or tell them to do either, yet for a few, it doesn't appear to have any kind of effect.

As a leader, parent, mentor, administrator or counsel we're put in a position of trust; to release the duties of the part in a way that supports the development of the person or group we lead, in confidence.

This faith generally requires trust in things we can't see. For when our patience is most sorely tried we have to return to the way that whenever, the development/growth journey can take a positive turn. This frequently happens, humorously, past the 'giving-in' point.

Life is a procedure of development/growth. It could be said, we never arrive, but in another sense we do develop/grow to overcome those things thought difficult, even unthinkable at some prior stage. Looking at it starting here in reverse helps us act reliably/faithfully.

Having confidence in those we lead and instruct is maybe the hardest journey to make. The acknowledgment we can't control things or people and that our collective progress relies on upon faith, conviction, versatility and staying power.

The visionary in each of us can see past what is just before our eyes… the vast possibilities, not the present reality.
