  • Can't enable virtualization on my system (HP probook 4530s)

    Hi there,

    I am not able to enable virtualization through BIOS as I am getting grey text there (for the virtualization option) and not able to click on the checkbox. Once earlier when I was using windows 7 I setted up pre boot security password for it using HP security manager which is enabled till now, I uninstalled hp security manager after some time but pre boot security was still working.
    Now my laptop runs on windows 8.1 64 bit. Later I installed hp security manger for windows 8.1 64 bit, but there was no option to disable pre-boot security. As I don't want to go back to windows 7 again due to some reasons, please tell me how can I enable virtualization on my system. My processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz model number HP probook 4530s.
    Please let me know if you need any other information. I would be very thankful of you.

    Hello Avishq,

    Please restart the unit and immediately press F10 after this unit will be powered on, now get into BIOS.

    Under BIOS--> go to system configuration---> and then Device Configuration and under Device Configuration--> scroll down to bottom you will find VT, check the boxes, save changes and exit from BIOS the VT will be enabled.

    Also you can try to unlock the password if you didn't remember password you have set earlier, to remove password from BIOS please follow the instruction- First shutdown ur laptop and remove laptop backpanel then find CMOS battrey, take out the CMOS and start you laptop wait for some time and then Insert CMOS Battery at it's original place and restart you system again. Doing this the bios setting will reset to default.

    Hi,

    Use BIOS to disable Pre-boot authentication

    1. Reboot the machine and press F2 at the BIOS Splash Screen.
    2. Enter the System or Admin Password to access the BIOS settings.
    3. Navigate to Security > Passwords.
    4. Select System Password. Enter the old System password, leave the new password fields blank and select OK.
    5. The System Password status will change to Not Set.
    6. Repeat the previous steps for Hard Drive Password if one is set. If you accessed the machine with the BIOS Admin password and the System password is unknown: Select Admin Password. Select Unlock; enter the Admin password and OK. Enter the old Admin password, leave the new password fields blank and select OK. The Admin and System Password status will change to Not Set.
    7. Exit the BIOS settings and boot into Windows. Pre-boot authentication is now disabled.

    You can try the command from prompt with administrative priviliges 

    bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype Auto

    If this does not work please check if your system supports SLAT and virtualization. For this you can use sysinternal's CoreInfo.exe . Tool can be downloaded from Microsoft Technet site: http://download.sysinternals.com/files/Coreinfo.zip

    Run "CoreInfo.exe -v" from elevated command prompt.
