For providing communication among the terminals in the network we need to provide interconnection among it. For doing that we use different kind of devices and arrangement, that is used for the private network and the public network.

Bridges

When we have many nodes in our network we divide it in the form of segments. This is called as segmenting the nodes, Bridge will be deployed for making this arrangement in the network.

Bridge provide the intelligence into the network by splitting data  and the connection among the nodes so that intercommunication can be effective.

Bridge also provides the source and the destination address in the traffic of data for each packet and forward that according to it.

Switches - Layer 2

For providing more control in the network, we can made a different arrangement known as the switch which splits your nodes in the network .

We made a highway where each node has its own lane for sending and receiving the data in the network. So that there will be no congestion problems in the data while sending or receiving the data at the same time.

So that when we look at our network we see that physically each station has its own cable into the network, well, conceptually we can think of this as each workstation having their own lane through the highway.
