Search engine optimization is the Godfather of online marketing. The position of your web page on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) determines how much traffic your page has and consequently the amount of business you end up doing. Search engine optimization is supported by four pillars which include:
    1. Keyword Research and Tagging
    2. Quality of Content
    3. Internal Page Linking
    4. External Page Linking
Over the course of the next few posts I will try to elaborate on these and highlight some other tools and tips to refine your online marketing processes.
The next two post will focus on Keyword Research and Tagging. We will unearth the relevance of good Keyword research and elaborately discuss the various HTML tags associated with SEO.

    Keyword Research

Keyword research involves in-depth and industry specific analyses to generate meaningful Keywords or phrases which push you up the ladder of search engine relevancy. It is a fundamental part of online marketing; its relevance expands across all segments including professional content writers, ghost writers, freelance writers, online publishers, and bloggers.
Compelling content is preferred by search engines. If you dont use the words people are actually interested in and actively searching for, youre just pushing against a wall. Professionals spend hours looking for the most searched terms in their particular segment to amalgamate these into their content or base their content around. A number of free and paid tools help in keyword analysis. These assist you in generating a list of industry specific and relevant keywords and phrases.
Google is the kingpin of search engines. Its real value is double its apparent value; it not only assists you in searching for anything across this wide world, but also provides companies with vital information about what people are searching for. It offers an excellent keyword analysis options through its Google planner feature. It provides elaborate analysis of popular keywords and offers advice as per your domain or requirements. Once you are satisfied with your list of keywords it is time to further filter it by making it more consistent and organized. Once filtered you have to strategically infuse your keywords and phrases into your webpage. It is vital to ensure that the keywords are not repeated superfluously. Inculcating the keywords into content will be covered in detail in the Quality of Content post.
Here is a five point program for apt keyword research:
    1) Start with a brainstorm list
    2) Filtering your list using suggested keyword phrases from an analysis tool (like google planner)
    3) Verifying keyword phrase relevance to your webpage
    4) Looking at search volume to determine consumer demand
    5) Analyzing the competitive space to make sure you and the searcher think the keywords mean the same things, and to decide if the space is too competitive

    Perpetual Process

Keyword research is a never ending process. It is essential as long as your website exists. You should be actively updating the content and keywords in a timely manner to ensure that you dont lag behind. With trends across the world changing on a momentary basis the job of SEO professionals is never over. , Even after the conclusion of the SEO content development and the launch of the website it is sensible to analyze your ranking, to see if there are any fluctuations. The second part of this blog will cater to the tagging part of the Keyword Research and Tagging subtopic of Search Engine Optimization.
