In the influential web industry trends don’t last long. Born out of innovative concepts, experimentation and fresh techniques, trends are the major forces for change, which, ultimately push an industry forward for something better and remarkable. Web offers a constantly changing and evolving environment. This leaves many of us with a multi-million dollar question which strikes almost every designer’s heart: What will define Web Design trends 2019? Like a number of Design experts and the UX think tanks, I’m wagering on VRs, Rich typography, conversational interfaces to leave an enduring mark on the design industry. Without much ado, let’s take a look at top 7 trends that will dominate website design space in year 2019.
Mobile-First design concept
The Mobile-first isn’t a new concept. It was a big hit over the past few years and it is anticipated that it will prevail and show its dominance even in the year 2019. More and more companies are expected to realize the importance of delivering the content for small screen devices and then working up to the bigger screens (Mobile-first design concept). Several Visual, Design and other restrictions that mobile-first models limits (in useful way) the companies to reconsider their core content and the message which they want to convey to their target audiences. Smartphones usually come with smaller screen sizes, this limits the content that user views at once. This compels the companies to get rid off or limit the amount of information which is not 100% required. However, allowing with the value-added & visually attractive extras to the users as the switch up to larger screens.
Human interactions are extremely fascinating — the social awkwardness, the communication styles, the way tales are told, trust is built, and the knowledge is transferred.
Can a web page evoke the similar response?
The Conversational interfaces have become the ‘talk of the town’ in the 2019 Web design World. Many of us believe that it’s just another design fad, but let’s admit it — the advent of Slack, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger or the iPhone messages have drastically changed the way we communicate and exchange the information. A research by Statista has revealed that by the year 2019, IM apps like LINE or Whatsapp are estimated to account for nearly 75 % of all the mobile messaging traffic, ahead of the mobile email, SMS or other mobile messaging options. By helping the brands to express varied personality traits and making them more approachable and human, Conventional Interface is truly a GAME CHANGER.
On the other hand, bots are not likely to have too much impact on the modern website design, but they will definitely influence the modern website design trends of 2019. It is believed that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered bots are going to be more complex but pragmatic this year, empowering the businesses to automate sales and communication.
Over the period of time the idea of a ‘good’ website has changed dramatically. Webmasters spend a lot of time in adding a lot of ‘Bells and Whistles’ to their websites. Excess use of sidebars, banner ads, popups, sigup boxes C2As, leads to cluttering of the websites and takes the attention away from the CONTENT.
In year 2019, websites are expected to start moving back to the basics and placing the emphasis back on the content. Whether it involves removing all those ‘Bells and Whistles’ or limiting the visually attractive extras, is yet to be determined. But it is for sure that Content will have a deep impact on determining 2019 Web Trends.
As a designer, you’ll need to be ready to design and create a VR experience that don’t require a headset. A WebVR with a 360-degree video and several other interactive experiences like 3D effects will be a great hit in website design.
2019 will witness the re-architecture of the website, away from the pages to a more personalized, individual content pieces. Content is expected to broken down into smaller individual components to meet the requirement of thousands of screens of varied sizes. Card and Grid design UI tie nicely with the responsive website design and mobile-first principles and works exceptionally well on the mobiles and tablets.
Card UIs assist the designers to showcase the quality content in the more manageable and precise form, so that the user can quickly scan scan to see what’s appealing and dismissing what is not. Users can filters, customize and sort the cards based on their requirements, allowing the companies to cater to specific needs of their target audiences.
A good web Typography never goes out of style. It has the potential to reveal a quick response, create an atmosphere and evoke an emotion, much similar to the human voice. A well constructed text and an appealing Typography design helps designer to create a pleasing web design. Thanks to the growing numbers of web fonts from retro type styles vintage looks to custom typefaces and enhanced design compatibilities, designers now have the option to take typography risks with more eagerness and novelty.
Over-sized, hand-rendered typography with lots of dynamic text and image layering working in line with the rich parallax scrolling is expected this year. However the designers need to understand one basic thing ‘Cool lettering still needs to be readable and visually interesting’.
An April 2014 Pew Research Center report on Internet of Things (IoT) impressed me a lot. It indicates that by the year 2025, the rise of embedded and wearable computing will bring the next revolution in digital technology. 83% of the experts believed that the wearable technology will see immense growth in next 10 years. This means that users will access the websites from varied platforms other than mobiles and desktops.
Who would not want an app to work on a phone or a watch?
As a web designer, you are required to create a fully functional and artistic web space that enables the users to access any information they seek. With users opting to buy wearables and wanting the interactions to replicate on devices, more of your clients will want to their sites to be accessible. Better be prepared for such requests else your client will search elsewhere.
