Direct routing is the process of sending data to the same network or we have the sender and the receiver at the same point.

When the packet needs to be send in  the same network means the source and the destination are at the same point then direct routing needs to be used.

When we can send data from one machine to another machine without going to any intermediary machine then it is called the direct route and the process is called direct routing.

Indirect routing is the process where the sender and the receiver address are different . This is the case where the packet must be forwarded by a node that knows how to reach the destination .

When we send data from one terminal to another terminal by the use of intermediary terminal which passes on that data then this is known as indirect route and the process is called as indirect routing.

The router we use can contains the address and details of more than one network and is like a gateway between these networks. That's why it is also termed as network gateway.
