    Selenium is a free open source automation testing tool Which is used for the automation testing also it is used for web based application. We can use Selenium in different types of browsers and platforms for testing.

    Selenium is very strong, flexible and easy to use. Selenium is compatible with different type's of operating systems - Mozilla, Google Chrome,Opera8,9,10 , IE 6,7,8.

    We can use any one language of following for writing the scripts which works with Selenium like-

    1. Java
    2. C#
    3. PHP
    4. Ruby
    5. Python
    6. Perl

    If the person doesnt holds a development background, then learning java must be a beginning point for a selenium career. Selenium Framework is made itself in Java.

    Hi,
    Selenium supports other languages as well like python, ruby, C#, javascript etc. However, java has gained wide spread acceptance in the industry as the preferred language for selenium. 
    Java is a vast language. You don’t need to learn full features of Java as that’s not required for selenium testing. You only need to learn a small part of it.
